News For The New Year.

Owl Totem aminal

The Yarkuwa Indigenous Knowledge Centre is in the process of changing over website hosting accounts.  The hosting is where all of the website files are saved so you can access our website 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

We have two Domain Names (that's the www and the .com and .com.au part of a website), www.yarkuwa.com and www.yarkuwa.com.au .  Both of these Domain Names can be set up so they activate the one website.  We do this in case someone forgets to add the .au suffix when typing in our website address.

Both our website hosting (where the website is saved) and the domain names were registered with a company called Crazy Domains.  For some unknown reason, we began having problems with our website.

We had a visit from Gary Currey and Graham Wade of the Country, Culture and Heritage Division of the Office of Environment and Heritage in Griffith recently.  That visit resulted in Graham Wade offering, with his Manager's (Gary) approval, to help try to fix the problems and to work with Chris Brown at Yarkuwa.

Graham, or "Wadey" by his nickname, has been working with Chris Brown from Yarkuwa on the website issue.  They have been working together through email and phone calls to set up new hosting with Lunar Pages, a different hosting company and transfer our website to the new hosting.

Stuart Calagaz of Deniliquin Info Tech Solutions has also provided valuable assistance to both Chris and Wadey with the transfer from the Crazy Domains hosting to Lunar Pages hosting.

While we were looking for the problem and trying different approaches to fix the issue, Wadey built a whole new 16 page website for us so we at least had something on the Internet.  Wadey then made a new graphic for the top of it and put the website on his own website hosting account, EasyWebsiteRentals.com

To make the whole thing work, Wadey then configured our Crazy Domain hosting so anyone doing a search for the Yarkuwa Indigenous Knowledge Centre using www.yarkuwa.com.au will find us.  If you look at the website address part at the top of your browser, you will see Wadey's website, EasyWebsiteRentals.com followed by a Yarkuwa reference.

Confused (image)Meanwhile, Stuart, Wadey and Chris are still trying to figure out why the www.yarkuwa.com Domain Name is not working.     While everyone was trying to figure out why things were not working, Chris had to set up the new hosting account with Lunar Pages.

Because it is Chris' job to maintain Yarkuwa's website when it is fixed, Wadey produced a short instructional video to do show Chris how to work with the new hosting account's Control Panel.  He published it on our temporary website so Chris could refer to it and set up the email accounts for Yarkuwa staff.

Using that video, Chris was able to create email accounts for each of the Yarkuwa staff members on the new hosting without any further assistance. Well done Chris!

The next step now is to re-configure the Domain Names so they look for the Yarkuwa Indigenous Knowledge Centre on the new hosting at Lunar Pages instead of the old hosting.

Hopefully, (hopefully,...), When that happens, everything will be back to normal.   We can then start to re-build the website.
